"I'm Just Getting More Awesome"

This e-card I saw on facebook is the motivation behind my "60 Things in 60 Days."

As of late, it feels as though my life has become stagnant. Monotonous. I wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go to bed. Repeat x4. Don't get me wrong, I love my job (and the people with whom I work). More often than not, I don't know what I am going to walk into at 8 o'clock in the morning. That being said, I'd like to lead an even more exciting life outside of work. Yes, I go out with family and friends on the weekends, but that's only if they're free. Lately, it seems as though they haven't been as "free" as they have been in the past. Let's face it, our lives are changing. We're growing older. I log onto facebook, and there it is... Susie is flashing new bling on her left hand. Martha is posting a sonogram. Larry just closed on a house. While I am happy and excited for everyone, I want some excitement, too. Honestly, a part of me is sad that when my best friend calls and asks me, "What's new?" my response is almost always the same... "nothing."

So, after a little talking with some friends and a lot of reflecting, I've decided that my "theme" for the summer is going to be "60 Things in 60 Days." Starting today, and for the 59 days that follow, I will be doing/trying something new or different each and every day. Now, don't expect me to do big and crazy things 7 days a week... like jump out of a plane or swim the English Channel. While I intend on trying a few "big" things to add some zest to my life, I'm mostly looking to do things differently, to learn about myself, and to become "better." Maybe I'll put milk in my coffee instead of cream in an attempt to be healthier. Maybe I'll take a cooking class to make my meals more edible. Whatever that "different thing" may be, I intend on documenting it here. If anything, my hope is just to be a little more "awesome" by the end of my 60 days. Enjoy!!!

  1. OMG!! I LOVE this idea! I will definitely read your blog daily! I have to say that you are not alone in the monotonous department. Eventhough I am married with kids, my life too has become stagnant and well, the same daily in being a stay at home mom. I've become "Cinderella," the "bus driver," "cook", etc and wake up each day to do it all over again. You're right... life does become this way and it changes as you get older! I am proud of you for trying something new! The benefit of learning about yourself in the process will totally outweight any negatives about the whole experience you're embarking on! GOOD FOR YOU GIRL! I look forward to reading all about your adventures!! XOXO Kel

  2. Elaine,

I think your blog is a great idea, but also keep in mind and I know this sounds a bit cliché, (hopefully I spelled that correctly) but life is was you make of it. You can chose if your life if Monotonous or not and just like anonymous posted earlier, other peoples lives just become Monotonous with other things. The grass always seems greener on the other side but if that were the case divorce would just be a seven letter word, and there would be no such thing as an unhappy couple.
Unfortunately in today's society those things are quite common,
however that should never discourage you from your quest for love. Always be thankful that you are healthy and have great network of family and friends, and try not to view your life as monotonous but as a random tapestry of events waiting to happen. Good Luck with the Blog

    1. thanks! It took me a while to get here, but I guess it's better late than never to effect change. I lived by the saying, "everything happens for a reason" a long time ago, and am excited to start living by that again!
